Get a clean, one-row-per-job Global Shop Solutions export with estimated and actual costs, ready for margin analysis in Excel or MarginGuard, in about ten minutes.

The problem

Global Shop Solutions already records what each job was estimated to cost and what it actually cost. Getting that into a form you can analyze across all jobs is where shops lose time: picking the right report, getting one row per job instead of one row per operation, and making sure revenue, estimated cost, and actual cost all come through. Estimated cost is often only available as a total while actuals come by FLOOOM category. That's fine: MarginGuard computes margin erosion from the totals and shows which actual categories are largest, then flags that category-level variance needs estimated components too.

What to measure

A usable export has one row per job with at minimum: job number, customer, revenue, and estimated and actual cost (totals or by category). With those, you can calculate margin erosion per job (estimated margin minus actual margin) and see which cost categories drove it. The table below shows exactly which Global Shop Solutions columns to include.

How MarginGuard helps

Upload the export to MarginGuard and pick Global Shop Solutions as the source. The Global Shop Solutions preset recognizes the column names below, shows a readiness score before anything is saved, and blocks unsafe multi-row files instead of guessing. No API, ERP credentials, or IT project is needed.

How to get started

  1. Step 1
Open Job Cost Analysis or a WIP dashboard

Use Job Cost Analysis, Open Jobs, or a WIP dashboard that lists one row per work order with sales and cost totals.

  2. Step 2
    Include FLOOOM components when available

Add Freight, Labor, Overhead, Outside, Other, and Material actuals. If only totals are available, Estimated Cost and Actual Cost still produce margin variance.

  3. Step 3
    Export to Excel

Use the grid's one-click Export to Excel. Make sure rows are work orders, not operations.

  4. Step 4
    Upload to MarginGuard

Integrations → Import → Global Shop → upload. FLOOOM columns map automatically to MarginGuard cost categories.

Common mistakes

Estimated cost is often only available as a total while actuals come by FLOOOM category. That's fine: MarginGuard computes margin erosion from the totals and shows which actual categories are largest, then flags that category-level variance needs estimated components too.

FAQ

What is FLOOOM in Global Shop?
Freight, Labor, Overhead, Outside, Other, Material, which is how Global Shop groups job costs. MarginGuard maps each to its own cost category.
Can I import with only total estimated cost?
Yes. You'll get margin erosion per work order. Category-level variance appears when estimated components are included too.
Should rows be work orders or operations?
Work orders. Operation-level rows repeat the work order with totals and are blocked to prevent double-counting.
